What's the difference between flat plate and evacuated tube collectors?
Flat plate collectors comprise a single large plate whereas evacuated tube collectors are made up of several, usual 30, evacuated tubes connected to a single manifold. Evacuated tube collectors are able to reach higher temperatures and are less affected by sub-optimal tilt and azimuth, however they are larger and some dislike their distinct appearance. Find out more.
How many collectors do I need?
On average, each collector provides enough thermal energy to heat the domestic hot water for two people, provide space heating for 250 ft², or heating for a two person hot tub.
How much space do I need for the collectors?
The length of an array is static, however the height and width of an array depends on the angle that the collectors are mounted. See the charts below for the length and width ranges for evacuated tube collectors and flat plate collectors.

Which tilt kit should I choose?
The optimal tilt for your collectors depends on where you live. Make sure to add the angle of the mounting surface to your tilt kit, e.g. if your roof has a 15° tilt and you've selected a 30° tilt kit then your system will have a 45° tilt. Wall mounted systems don't come with tilt kits and are mounted flat against the wall, giving them an effective tilt of 90°.

Tilt kits for evacuated tube collectors are fixed at whichever tilt you choose. Tilt kits for flat plate collectors can be adjusted between 20° and 65°.
What is the FREEDOM WON?
The FREEDOM WON solar thermal heater is Simple Solar's flagship product. Available exclusively from Simple Solar and our authorized distributors, a FREEDOM WON system is a fully automated, standalone solar thermal heater comprising four parts: a pump station, PV panel, heat dissipater, and expansion tank. The pump station, automatically powered by the PV panel, pumps your heat transfer fluid through a closed solar loop, including the thermostatically controlled heat dissipater which ensures the fluid doesn't exceed the safe maximum temperature, and the expansion tank which allows your system to absorb changes in fluid volume brought about by outside temperature changes.

FREEDOM WON systems can be installed with all flat plate and evacuated tube collectors, and, due to their low operating pressure and actively regulated temperature controls, are suitable for PEX linesets, saving you money on equipment costs and installation time, all the while providing an easily installed, reliable, automatic, cost effective, and safe solar heater.
