Heat your home or business with solar heatUse your solar heater for solar space heating and keep any room, from the boardroom to the bedroom, warm with clean and free solar energy. |
It's simple to supplement your space heating with solarFREEDOM WON solar thermal systems are ideal for space heating. The lineset, power supply, and pump station work with all standard hydronic heaters, plus the FREEDOM WON temperature regulator will allow you to stop heating during the summer months. Each 30-tube collector provides enough heating for around 250 ft², depending, of course, on site conditions, time of year, etc. If you're not also using the heat for domestic water then you only need a hot water tank if you want to store the heat overnight. Alternatively, you can save on the expense of a tank by dumping the heat into the floor or other heat sink.
If you don't have a heat sink then you'll only be able to heat when the sun is shining, in which case you'll also want a backup heater. |
New ways to use solar space heat
Hydronic BaseboardsEasy to install and use, hydronic baseboards use conduction to transfer the heat from your solar heater into the room with the baseboard. They're less expensive then other hydronic heating options but take up a bit of space where they're mounted.
|
Hydronic Forced AirA step up from baseboard heaters, forced air systems use convection for heating. You can put a coil connected to your solar heater into an existing forced air system or dedicated hydronic wall heaters that include a fan are also available.
|
Hydronic In-floorRequires a bit of foresight, you can't add it once the concrete has been poured, in-floor hydronic heating heats the floor which then steadily releases heat into the room. Concrete serves as a good heat store, providing heat long after the sun has gone down. Also, opening doors won't result in a rush of all your hot air out the door.
|
HomeIf your thermal collectors are generating more heat than you need for your domestic hot water then instead of wasting that extra heat, use it for space heating. Don't worry if you haven't got in-floor heating, hydronic baseboard or forced air heating easily makes use of any extra heat your solar heater is generating.

WorkshopWith their high ceilings, a lot of the energy spent heating a workshop tends to be wasted heating the air at the top of the building. This makes workshops perfect for hydronic in-floor heating! Ample roof space means that with enough collectors you can provide 100 % of your heating needs with solar.
|
Hydronic GreenhouseThe passive solar heating used by greenhouses is perfect for heating up the air inside, but it's rarely enough to heat the soil. Connecting a solar heater to hydronic heating pipes placed beneath the root beds can solve this problem. From carrots to cannabis, now you can grow plants year round with solar space heat, regardless of the outside temperature.
