When the original building was damaged by fire, Cornelius decided to build a net-positive secondary suite in its place. He contracted Simple Solar to install a 12 kW FREEDOM WON system, generating more than enough energy to heat the building and provide its hot water, and a five kW PV system. A longtime environmentalist, Cornelius can now add winner of the City of Calgary's Mayor's Urban Design Award 2015 in the Green City category to his list of accomplishments.
